# Sing for joy, daughter of Zion
"Zion" is the same as "Jerusalem." The prophet speaks of the city as if it is a daughter. Possible meanings are 1) Zechariah personifies the city as a person who can sing. AT: "Sing for joy, Zion" or 2) the phrase "daughter of Zion" is a metonym for the people who live in the city. AT: "Sing for joy, people of Zion" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metaphor]] and [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-personification]] and [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metonymy]])
