# For you were once darkness
|

|
Just as one cannot see in the dark, so people who love to sin lack spiritual understanding. (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metaphor]])

# but now you are light in the Lord
|
|
|
|
Just as one can see in the light, so people whom God has saved understand how to please God. (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-metaphor]])

# Walk as children of light

# the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth

# Do not associate with the unfruitful works of darkness
|
|
|
|

|
|
