Connecting Statement:
This is the end of the part of the story that began in Matthew 2:1 about Herod's attempt to kill the new King of the Jews.
But when he heard
"But when Joseph heard"
Archelaus

he was afraid
"Joseph was afraid"
what had been spoken through the prophets
This can be stated in active form. AT: "what the Lord spoke long ago through the prophets" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-activepassive)
he would be called a Nazarene
Here "he" refers to Jesus. The prophets before the time of Jesus would have referred to him as the Messiah or the Christ. AT: "people would say that the Christ is a Nazarene" (See: rc://en/ta/man/translate/translate-names)
