For what association does righteousness have with lawlessness?
"For righteousness can have no association with lawlessness."
For what fellowship does light have with darkness?
Paul asks this question to emphasize that light and darkness cannot coexist since light dispels darkness. The words "light" and "darkness" refer to the moral and spiritual qualities of believers and unbelievers. The Bible often speaks of unrighteous people, people who do not do what pleases God, as if they were walking around in darkness. It speaks of light as if it were what enables those sinful people to become righteous, to understand what they are doing wrong and begin to obey God. Alternate translation: "Light can have no fellowship with darkness."
