I did not treat this as a euphemism, because God was punishing them.  I don't think he was speaking euphemistically of death.   
Perhaps I should have included the rest of the sentence  "...with those who were pierced by the sword." Maybe the idiom is not  just "lie down" but "lie down with people who have died"
