# Eternal Life
The word "eternal" is used to talk about something that will always exist or that continues to be forever. Eternal life is a life that will never end. The words “eternal life” are used to talk about people who will live with God forever. Jesus made it possible for people to have eternal life by his death on the cross. God gives a person eternal life when the person believes in Jesus (see: John 3:15-16; 3:36; 11:25-26; 17:3; 1 Timothy 1:16; 1 John 5:11-13).
#### More Information About This Topic
The Gospel of John speaks many times about eternal life. John said that a person has eternal life by knowing the one true God and Jesus Christ (see: John 17:3). Paul taught that God gives people eternal life by his grace (see: Romans 6:22-23). Jesus will give Christians eternal life when he returns to the earth (see: James 1:12; Revelation 2:10). In some way, believers also have eternal life now (see: 1 John 3:14-16). This is sometimes called “new life” or being “born again.” Christians are able to do things that honor God because they have eternal life or new life now.
