# Mediator
Sometimes two or more people may disagree about something. Perhaps they fight about it. A “mediator” is someone who helps these people agree with one another. A mediator also helps these people be at peace with one another.
#### More Information About This Topic
Because all people have sinned, they are Gods enemies. All people deserve to receive punishment from God. They can do nothing to stop God from punishing them. They would be sent to hell unless they had a mediator to help them. Jesus became the mediator that people needed. He is the mediator between God the Father and his people (see: 1 Timothy 2:5; see also Ephesians 2:11-22). When Jesus died to save people from their sinning, he made it so that people could be at peace with God.
Jesus is also the mediator of a new covenant between God and Christians (see: Hebrews 8:6; 9:15; 12:24). That is, he caused there to be a new covenant between God and Christians. After Jesus returned to heaven, he continues to be a mediator between God the Father and Christians (see: Hebrews 7:24-25; 1 John 2:1).
In the Old Testament, Moses was a mediator between God and the Israelites (see: Galatians 3:19). God made a covenant with Moses and gave him the law of Moses. After that, Moses gave the law of Moses to the Israelites (see: Exodus 19:20-22; 20:18-19; 24:1-4).
Priests were also mediators between God and the Israelites. That is, the priests took the sacrifices from the people and offered them to God so that God would forgive the people.
