# Psalm

A “psalm” is a song that people use to worship God. A psalm was often written in the form of a poem. A "psalmist" is someone who writes psalms.

The Book of Psalms in the Old Testament has a collection of these songs. The psalms were used by the nation of Israel when they worshiped God.

In the New Testament, Christians are instructed to sing psalms to God as a way of worshiping him (see: Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
