Jesus continues to teach about marriage and divorce.

## They say to him ##

"The Pharisees say to Jesus"

## command us ##

"command us Jews"

## certificate of divorce ##

document that legally ends the marriage

## from the beginning it was not that way ##

"when God created the man and woman he did not plan for them to ever divorce"

## except for sexual immorality  ##

"except for sexual unfaithfulness"

## and the man who marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery ##

Many early texts do not include these words.
