## Definition
A sin offering is a sacrifice made to grant forgiveness from sin.
* Hebrews 9:22 says that in order for there to be a cleansing from sin, blood must be shed to pay the cost for the sin that was committed.
* In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed as a sin offering but these sacrifices had to be done repeatedly and could not permanently bring about forgiveness of sin.
* In the New Testament, Jesus became the perfect sin offering. His death on the cross paid the penalty for sin, for all time.
