People in that culture would lie down beside the table while eating. The joy in the kingdom of God is frequently spoken of as if the people there were feasting. Alternate translation: "sit at the feast" 

# in the kingdom of heaven

Here "kingdom of heaven" refers to God's rule as king. If possible, keep "heaven" in your translation. Alternate translation: "when our God in heaven shows that he is king"
