* **the contributions** - These were donations specifically for the priests.
* **tithes to gather into them the portions required  by the law for the priests and for the Levites.  Each was assigned to work the fields near the towns** - A new sentence can begin after the word "tithes." AT: "These men were also responsible for collecting from the fields outside the towns the portions that the Law required for the priests and Levites."
* **For Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites** - It seems that the men were appointed because the people of Judah were grateful for the priests and Levites who were serving.
