While the crowd probably included women and children ([John 6:4](./04.md)), only the men were counted.

## giving thanks ##

Jesus is praying to God the Father and thanking him for the fish and the loaves.

## he distributed ##

Jesus broke the loaves and fish first and passed them to his disciples. The disciples then passed the bread and fish to the people.
