These are Yahweh's words to the people of Israel.

## cities will be laid waste ##

## the high places shall be desolate ##

"no one will go to the high places any longer"

## they will be broken ##

## your works will be wiped away ##

"no one will remember what you have done"

## The dead will fall down in your midst ##

"You will see the enemy kill many people"

## know that I am Yahweh ##

Possible meanings are 1) "understand who I, Yahweh, am" or 2) "understand that I am Yahweh, the one true God" or 3) "know that I, Yahweh, have the power to do the things that I say that I will do." (UDB)
