End of the famine

It is obvious that some time has passed since the beginning of the famine which brought the Israelites into Egypt. Yahweh appears to be punishing the Hebrews for not returning back to the Promised Land instead choosing to stay in Egypt. No return attempt is recorded to have been made. (See: rc://en/tw/dict/bible/kt/promisedland and rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-explicit)

A GL translator sent this to me saying the word "of" should be after "...Promised Land instead"

At first I thought the whole sentence should be written to make the meaning clear, but now I am not sure this statement should be in the intro.

I cannot recall reading anywhere that Exodus 1 implies that God is punishing Israel. Acutally, in Gen 15:13 God told Abraham his descendants would suffer in for 400 years in a land not their own.

I suggest deleting this section, and adding to the previous section a statement about the length of time.

Israel’s growth

Many years had passed since the famine that caused the Israelites to go to Egypt, and the number of Israelites grown greatly...

I agree wholeheartedly. I deleted that section and added the suggested sentence to the beginning of the setion on Israel's growth.
