ULB text: Pilate then said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this purpose I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice."
Current note:
I have come into the world
Here "world" is a synecdoche that refers to the people who live in the world. (See: rc://en/ta/man/jit/figs-synecdoche)
Is this suggesting that translators could say "I have come into the people"?
Is this really a synecdoche referring to people? To me it seems parallel to "I have been born" and means basically the same thing.
Do we need this note?
I agree with you about it not be synecdoche.
I don't think a note is needed.
