Exodus with Ancient Roads
- This map, Exodus with ancient roads, gives the ancient trade-routes that determined the trade, wealth, and prosperity of the region.
- There were several trade routes leading to Egypt from the East, and from Egypt from the West.
- There are two suggestions for Mount Sinai on this map.
- There was a period of some 40 years of wandering in the Wilderness before the children of Israel took possession of the land of Canaan.
The major cities named in the Exodus:
a.) Succoth, translated as "Booths," Exodus 12:37; 13:20; Numbers 33:5-6, where Egypt camped before departing from Egypt;
b.) Etham, Exodus 13:20, the edge of the wilderness between Succoth and the Wilderness of Sinai;
c.) Mouth of the Gorges, Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the Great Sea, Exodus 14:2, Numbers 33:7;
d.) Wilderness of Shur;
e.) Marah, an oasis where the water was "bitter," Exodus 15:23;
f.) Elim, Exodus 15:23; Numbers 33:8-9, "70 Palm Trees" and 12 wells;
g.) Wilderness of Sin, Exodus 16:1; Numbers 33:11where God provided the quail and manna;
h.) Rephidim, Exodus 17:1-16, "Refreshments" and location where the Amalakites attacked Israel, see Joshua 17:8-16, where Moses' hands were supported in prayer, while Joshua was leading in battle;
i.) Mount Sinai, Exodus 17:1; 19:2; 10:12; 33:15-16; where the Ten Commandments were given to Moses;
j.) Kadesh, Numbers 20:1, 22; 33:36-37;
k.) Mount Hor, Numbers 20:22; 21:4; 33:36, Aaron buried here on Edomite border; Abarim Mountains, Numbers 33:45-46, Israelites camped at the base of Mount Nebo; Moab Plains, Numbers 22:1; 33:48-50, where the Israelites gathered before entering Canaan, called "occupied Trans-Jordan" region.
