Grain is the seed of a food plant such as wheat or barley. It is something that is used to make bread.

Sometimes the word “grain” is also used to talk about the whole plant. The top part of the plant that holds the grain is called a “head of grain.”

A grain offering was a gift of wheat or barley flour that the Israelite people offered to God (see: Leviticus 2). The grain offering was often given after giving a burnt offering. Sometimes the grain used for the grain offering was cooked before being offered to God, but other times it was not cooked. Oil and salt were added to the grain, but yeast or honey were not added to the grain. Part of the grain offering was burned up. Part of it was eaten by the priests.
