# Manna

Manna was food. God gave the Israelites manna to eat while they lived in the wilderness. They lived in the wilderness for 40 years after leaving Egypt. Manna looked like white seeds. It tasted sweet like honey (see: Exodus 16:31).

The word “manna” means “What is it?” When the people of Israel found this food that God gave them, they did not know what it was. They asked each other, “What is it?” (see: Exodus 16:15).

Manna is also called “bread from heaven” (see: Exodus 16:4; John 6:31-33).
