# Laying on of Hands
The words “laying on of hands” are used to talk about someone placing one’s own hands on another person. The Bible talks about laying hands on people in order to do different things.

This was done to a person when people dedicated that person to serve God (see: Numbers 8:9-11; 27:18-21; Acts 6:6; 13:2-3; see also 1 Timothy 4:14; 5:22; 2 Timothy 1:6). That is, the people promised God that this person would serve God.
This was also done to a person when someone prayed for God to heal that person (see: Matthew 9:18; Luke 13:13; Acts 28:8).
This was also done to a person when someone prayed for that person to receive the Holy Spirit (see: Acts 8:17; 9:17).
This was also done to a person when someone wanted to bless that person (see: Matthew 19:13-15).

The laying on of hands was a sign that God was working through the person who was laying hands on the other person.
